Yet another photo op... We've been doing photo ops like this for years now. This recent one was conducted in Sainik Farm near Saket. Benefits of such a photo op: We channelized some 45+ kgs of littered garbage into formal waste management system By doing so we helped alleviate the local soil We also prevented the place from becoming a breeding ground of disease carrying vectors The photo op also helped in improving the local aesthetics Such a photo op would inspire people to join our mission or maybe they'll do such photo ops themselves... Either way, it's a win for us! Let's do many more of such photo ops! Yes, the sarcasm is intended... Haha!

ONLY ONE EARTH - This was the theme of World Environment Day 2022. In the quest for life on other planets, we take our only home - our planet, EARTH for granted. We need to remember that we have only one habitable planet and we all should collectively aim to protect it. This Environment Day, our volunteers contributed to our environment by planting a few native tree species: harshringar, amla and amaltas at Dwarka. These saplings have been added along with the already existing saplings which we water regularly. It means we now have more green friends every weekend to take care of! Wait, how could we forget our existing saplings? No, we didn’t. We had compost and water to feed them with. Let's take small consistent steps to protect our environment and celebrate each day as Environment Day!

NO. OF VOLUNTEERS = 12 TRASH COLLECTED = 25 KG A cleanup in DLF Phase 1! Wait. Does that place even require one? Apparently, no! But an hour of manual work and we had 25 kgs of waste collected in our bags demanding the right disposal mechanism. The side track of the main road next to Silver Oaks Society in Gurgaon is prone to open dumping of plastic waste, mostly of the gutkha and pan masala packets, and disposable glasses. Unfortunately, they even escape the landfills or recycling chain. And sadly, they get mixed with the local soil. Soil is the mother of all mothers. Soil is what gives life to the flora. It’s a different avatar of our mother nature. So, we gathered this mother’s day to do our bit towards our super mother. Our volunteers together with Lakshya Foundation collected plastic waste from the stretch and handed it over to FrontMan Waste Handling for its proper disposal. NO. OF VOLUNTEERS = 30 TRASH COLLECTED = 80 KG Earth Day is a reminder that we all need to take care of this big rock that we call home. One of the ways we can take care of our home is by cleaning it up on a regular basis. We gathered on the morning of 23-Apr-2022 to cleanup the area outside Delhi Cantonment Metro Station. This whole patch is a victim of littering. We collected around 80 kgs of waste comprising mostly of disposable plastic glasses and plates, and empty packets of gutkha, pan masala, chips etc. We then delivered the waste to a waste transfer station for its proper processing. Let's not limit to environmental commemorative days to do our bit for our environment. Let's make that a lifestyle. Make every day Earth Day!

  Our home composting workshop at Lodhi Garden yesterday was an insightful session. We thank Project Swabun for making it fun by planning a game around the theme.  Starting with addressing the issue of waste menace, the session covered different types of home composting methods we can practice at an individual level. Thanks to our host Jayant Sethi and our inquisitive audience for making this workshop interactive and being a part in our waste management journey.

NO. OF VOLUNTEERS = 22 TRASH COLLECTED = 40 KG We Mean To Clean in collaboration with Enactus Ramjas conducted a cleanup drive at Sainik Vihar on 27-Mar-2022. This site is home to about 200 amaltas trees we had planted a few years back. The site was in need of a cleanup drive to prevent soil contamination. Together, we collected around 40 kgs of waste, mostly plastic consisting of disposable water bottles, disposable glasses, beer bottles etc. We even segregated the waste before leaving it at the waste transfer station. Number of Volunteers = 15 Trash Collected = 10 KG We Mean To Clean in collaboration with the New Delhi Nature Society and Consumer Voice conducted a cleanup drive at Vasant Kunj. This beautiful place is concealed and provides a comfortable space to people in order to get rid of their trash.  We were also accompanied by Rotaract DUSC for the cleanup drive. NO. OF VOLUNTEERS = 2 WASTE COLLECTED = 18 KG Our volunteers in Jaipur got together yesterday at Jal Mahal. There is a lot of open littering on the stretch across this spectacular tourist spot. The volunteers did a cleanup and collected around 18 kg of waste, mostly plastic in just one hour.  Let’s use dustbins instead of dumping litter on roads and maintain the sanctity of tourist places! It will not only help preserve the charm of the place but will also help boost our tourism.

Seventh Anniversary Celebrations! NO. OF VOLUNTEERS = 15+ SAPLINGS PLANTED = 15+ It was our seventh anniversary This October 2 and our volunteers commemorated it by planting 15+ native tree saplings including neem, peepal, amaltas, jamun at St. Gregorio’s School, Dwarka. Needless to mention that covid has restricted most of our volunteers... They want to get back to action but some are awaiting vaccinations and some are playing it safe even after being fully vaccinated. Nevetheless, the show must go on and our humble bits shall continue!

We planted pilkhan, peepal, neem, amaltas and bakain in a miyawaki forest at Badu Sarai village. The plantation drive was led by Rise Foundation NGO. The technique is new for us. We hope to learn more about it and do it the right way.

Our volunteers gathered last Sunday to add 100+ more jamun and mango grow bags reusing waste plastic packets in our nursery at Janak Puri. We also watered the existing native tree saplings in the batch. One of the best part in this whole exercise is the experience of playing with soil... something that we did only as kids! Once the grow bags are prepared, one can simply insert a finger about an inch or two deep into the grow bag to make space for the seeds. We usually put two seeds per bag to increase our chances of germination. Even if both the seeds germinate, we can separate them while planting. . Once the grow bags are done we take them to a secure place... Essentially, our own saplings bed. We also water them regularly to ensure their growth.
