And that’s how we celebrated our five year anniversary today at Buddha Jayanti Park. This special day started as one of our regular cleanliness drives with an add-on focus on segregation.

All thanks to the tons of excitement our volunteers brought in with them that we could collect 53 kg trash in less than an hour.

Wait...what? Isn’t that too much for a place so beautiful! Did we mention that it was not just a drive! It was a competition this time!!! And like every other competition, there had to be a winner.

Interestingly, we had winners… all 44 of them and others too who couldn’t make it today but have been a part of our amazing journey. And so, with the stage set, the gifts ready and potluck meal arranged, it was celebration time.

None of us is perfect but getting together has helped us combine our skills and overcome our individual weaknesses. Thank you volunteers for this amazing journey!

WE MEAN TO CLEAN's Recommendations to Achieve a Swachh Bharat - I

India is one big nation. We are rich in cultural heritage. Over century we’ve developed, economically, especially the middle class. About 43% of population resides in urban areas, which were 11.4% according to 1901 census, 28.53% in the 2001 census and crossed 30% as per 2011 census, standing at 31.16%. There are 53 urban agglomerations in India with a population of 1 million or more as of 2011 against 35 in 2001. Our transcendence can be termed as “a consumerist culture”, where virtually every item purchased comes fixed in a box wrapped in a bubble sheet. In science, this fact reduces time of impact and absorbs the momentum after collision but in reality it is aggregating to an irreparable damage to environment. It is waste generation. India generates 62 million tonnes out of which 43 million Tonnes Per Annum is collected from source. What happens when many hands come together?

An exciting day for us. We never tried it before at this scale at such a location. But with a little help from everyone the day turned out to be outstanding! The place is Janakpuri District Center. It's a large shopping center in west Delhi. Home to various kinds of shops, eateries, restaurants and even offices. Also, a perpetual victim of civil negligence by those who have an establishment here or the visitors to these establishments. Yes, the place maintains consistency all-year round in terms of open garbage dumping. Before we even conducted this drive we spoke to a lot of shop owners to understand the problem. It was the same lamenting around people's attitude towards littering liberally... Forget littering, people found creative ways to dump their garbage - office letter boxes! The other thing that came out of those discussions with the local shopkeepers was finger-pointing on civic authorities. Not that the place doesn't see any sweepers. We did spot one on the day of...

Spotfix at CP

Date: 25-June-2016 No. of Volunteers: 29 Time: 2 Hours We were invited by India@75 team (a CII initiative) to participate in their cleanliness drive at CP. Our enthusiastic team of volunteers showed up in big numbers and removed paan-stains from pillars at inner circle in CP. We also painted them to restore their look. Our volunteers also spoke to some of the local vendors sitting around and big showrooms such as those of United Colors Of Benetton and Asian Paints and requested them all to help clean the surroundings clean. It'll only help their business after-all. WE MEAN TO CLEAN was also thrilled to be accompanied by Temsutula Imsong and Shailesh Pandey.
