Our volunteers gathered last Sunday to add 100+ more jamun and mango grow bags reusing waste plastic packets in our nursery at Janak Puri. We also watered the existing native tree saplings in the batch. One of the best part in this whole exercise is the experience of playing with soil... something that we did only as kids! Once the grow bags are prepared, one can simply insert a finger about an inch or two deep into the grow bag to make space for the seeds. We usually put two seeds per bag to increase our chances of germination. Even if both the seeds germinate, we can separate them while planting. . Once the grow bags are done we take them to a secure place... Essentially, our own saplings bed. We also water them regularly to ensure their growth.

We planted 60+ native trees such as peepal, neem, amaltas, pilkhan, baheda, jamun etc. yesterday at Dwarka. We had extremely enthusiastic company from Dwarka Xpress Runners Club and Rise Foundation. The most interesting part? We utilized saplings from our own native trees nursery in Janak Puri ! Yes, the same one we set up reusing waste plastic packets. Not just plantation, the volunteers were also cautious about the cleanliness of the place - they themselves picked up sapling bags to clean up after the plantation.

We have kicked-off our native tree plantation drive for this year’s monsoon with planting a sapling in its safe abode. We planted a pilkhan tree to begin with this season. Once we finalize a plantation site, we will plant more, of course, following all covid appropriate protocol. Trees are most effective in dealing with air pollution, global warming and climate change. We began setting up our nursery of native trees in June 2020 . We reused waste plastic packets such as those of milk, detergent powder, savouries, snacks etc. We sowed the seeds of the fruits we consumed and we also extracted some stray saplings. And thanks to people's love, we also got contributions of healthy saplings into our own nursery. This nursery will help us become 'atmanirbhar' (self-reliant) for our plantation drives, at least to some extent. So now we have some peepal, neem, amaltas, jamun, mango, pilkhan, bakain and goolar. Date: 27-12-2020 Number of volunteers: 5 Trash Collected: 10 kg The residents of AG1 block in Vikas Puri came together last Sunday to clean a park in their neighbourhood. They collected around 10kg of waste including plastic bottles, glass bottles and plastic glasses that were dumped in an alcove, which took a lot of removal effort. Date:  25-12-2020 Number of Volunteers: 3 Trash Collected: 25 kg Our volunteers in Jaipur got together on this special day at Jal Mahal. The witnessed three special occasions - Christmas, Tulsi Diwas and Geeta Jayanti. There was a lot of open littering on the stretch across this spectacular tourist spot. The volunteers did a cleanup and collected around 25 kg of waste, mostly plastic in just two hours. DATE: 20-Dec-2020 NO. OF VOLUNTEERS = 10 TRASH COLLECTED = 25 kg The residents of AG 1 block in Vikas Puri volunteered last Sunday to clean a park in their neighbourhood. The volunteers including two sweepers collected 25 kg of waste, mostly plastic from the park and also from a compost pit in the park. They collected the plastic waste and other recyclables such as glass and metal separately, and sold them to a scrap dealer, thus, ensuring that the waste entered the right chain. Taking care of saplings regularly is more important than the plantation itself. Our volunteers ensure that our saplings are never devoid of water or the required nutrients.  Many of our volunteers are making compost from kitchen waste at their homes. This final product after one-two months of patience is a great nutrition for the saplings and ensures their good growth.

Ongoing celebrations to our sixth! Some of our volunteers planted mango, jamun and banyan tree saplings in their vicinity. They have been raising jamun and mango saplings at their homes while the banyan sapling was extracted from a wall. They will water these transplanted saplings regularly. We turned six this week and some of our volunteers celebrated it by organizing a cleanup at Jal Mahal, Jaipur. They collected trash from the road to Jal Mahal, which is prone to littering by the tourists to this place. We are overwhelmed with such environmentally conscious celebrations!  WE TURN 6! Today marks our group's sixth anniversary. While we are locked in because of Covid19, our excitement knows no bounds. Yes, we have our own constraints, we can't conduct a mass scale cleanup or a plantation drive to commemorate this day. But we've been encouraging individual-level activities. One of our volunteers conducted a cleanup in a park in his vicinity. You too can join the celebration with a similar act. We might be socially-distanced but we are in this together! To many more of such days to come!
