World Cleanup Day 2022 | Cleanup Drive

A week almost drenched with the downpour in various parts of the city. Literally, it was clouds over our cleanup drive on World Cleanup Day, 17-Sep-2022.

But thank heavens (pun intended) the sunshine in the morning put a smile on our faces. Yes, we were able to conduct our cleanup drive as planned.

The meetup saw enthusiastic bunch from Bhumi NGO, Social Responsibility Cell, Deen Dyal Upadhyay College, and Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Students Movement, Janak Puri Chapter. Some of these volunteers came from far flung places… truly passion can drive you distances!

This cleanup drive was held in a green belt park in A1 block, Janak Puri. The park has a dhalao next to it. And perhaps that’s why some people think that the entire park is probably a dustbin.

We collected 120+ kgs of littered garbage and channelized it into the waste management system by transferring it to its rightful place, the dhalao.

We thank all the volunteers for making this drive a success. We request everyone not to litter and use a dustbin instead. Further, please join us for our cleanup drives.

WE MEAN TO CLEAN's Recommendations to Achieve a Swachh Bharat - I

India is one big nation. We are rich in cultural heritage. Over century we’ve developed, economically, especially the middle class. About 43% of population resides in urban areas, which were 11.4% according to 1901 census, 28.53% in the 2001 census and crossed 30% as per 2011 census, standing at 31.16%. There are 53 urban agglomerations in India with a population of 1 million or more as of 2011 against 35 in 2001. Our transcendence can be termed as “a consumerist culture”, where virtually every item purchased comes fixed in a box wrapped in a bubble sheet. In science, this fact reduces time of impact and absorbs the momentum after collision but in reality it is aggregating to an irreparable damage to environment. It is waste generation. What happens when many hands come together?

An exciting day for us. We never tried it before at this scale at such a location. But with a little help from everyone the day turned out to be outstanding! The place is Janakpuri District Center. It's a large shopping center in west Delhi. Home to various kinds of shops, eateries, restaurants and even offices. Also, a perpetual victim of civil negligence by those who have an establishment here or the visitors to these establishments. Yes, the place maintains consistency all-year round in terms of open garbage dumping. Before we even conducted this drive we spoke to a lot of shop owners to understand the problem. It was the same lamenting around people's attitude towards littering liberally... Forget littering, people found creative ways to dump their garbage - office letter boxes! Spotfix at CP

Date: 25-June-2016 No. of Volunteers: 29 Time: 2 Hours We were invited by India@75 team (a CII initiative) to participate in their cleanliness drive at CP. Our enthusiastic team of volunteers showed up in big numbers and removed paan-stains from pillars at inner circle in CP. We also painted them to restore their look. Our volunteers also spoke to some of the local vendors sitting around and big showrooms such as those of United Colors Of Benetton and Asian Paints and requested them all to help clean the surroundings clean.
