A pleasant February morning welcomed us at Sangam Vihar DDA park. Perfect for a cleanup drive! Our small yet significant army wore their reusable gloves and exuded their passion towards cleaning the environment around our saplings clean. Of course, it also helps in keeping the place neat and tidy anyway!

The beauty of this team is they do not need directions. Everything falls into place by itself. Some went forward clearing up the garbage and others began clearing up weeds surrounding our saplings. And some fed the saplings with compost. The coordination was like a perfect symphony orchestra.

At the end of the drive, we collected about 60 kg of trash and were able to clear enough weed that our saplings were clearly noticeable, with a dedicated path now visible towards them for easy access.

We request everyone not to litter... please! Find a dustbin around. You'd surely find one! Littering is extremely bad for our environment. It all comes back to us in different forms.

WE MEAN TO CLEAN's Recommendations to Achieve a Swachh Bharat - I

India is one big nation. We are rich in cultural heritage. Over century we’ve developed, economically, especially the middle class. About 43% of population resides in urban areas, which were 11.4% according to 1901 census, 28.53% in the 2001 census and crossed 30% as per 2011 census, standing at 31.16%. There are 53 urban agglomerations in India with a population of 1 million or more as of 2011 against 35 in 2001. Our transcendence can be termed as “a consumerist culture”, where virtually every item purchased comes fixed in a box wrapped in a bubble sheet. In science, this fact reduces time of impact and absorbs the momentum after collision but in reality it is aggregating to an irreparable damage to environment. It is waste generation. Native Tree Plantation at Ajmal Khan Park, Karol Bagh

PLANT A TREE, PLANT A LIFE! Total Volunteers = 16 Saplings Planted = 23 (amaltas, pilkhan) Bottle Caps Collected = 287 Continuing our weekly efforts in the monsoon season of 2019, we returned to the Ajmal Khan park on 10th of August. With a clear objective of planting native trees none needed any briefing on what to do. We had our own volunteers as well as some of the local residents. It was a pleasant morning that helped everyone’s high spirits. The soil was quite hard on the patch we targeted for our plantation. Thanks to the absence of rains and also the minor amounts of construction and demolition waste buried beneath. And we had to dig pits here! Well, it allowed some of the team members to display their muscular prowess. The seemingly difficult task of digging pits looked smooth with spades in the hands of a daedal bunch of people.
